Vietnam Jails 8 for Anti-Government Acts

A court in Ho Chi Minh City sentenced eight dissidents to up to 20 years in jail Tuesday for activities aimed at overthrowing the government, the official Vietnam News Agency reported.

The principal defendant in the two-day trial was academic Doan Viet Hoat, who was jailed for 20 years. The case has sparked protests from U.S. human rights groups.
