Long Beach : Horse Tour Operations Get Rules on Safety, Cleanup
Horse-drawn carriages must avoid Long Beach’s fast lanes, and drivers must dispose of all waste from the animals.
Long Beach City Council members passed an ordinance last week that requires the owners of horse-drawn carriages to keep them off streets where traffic moves faster than 30 m.p.h. and to be responsible for cleaning up after them.
Council members proposed the guidelines after a business began giving carriage rides last year in the Belmont Shore area. The business has since left town, but another carriage operator has expressed interest in the city, officials said.
