Four people were singled out for honors at the 79th annual Chamber of Commerce banquet last week at the Waterfront Hilton in Huntington Beach.

Businessman Raymond Robert Ross received the 1992 outstanding citizen award, partly for helping developmentally handicapped young people and giving them jobs in a retail clothing business that he manages.

He was also praised for his contributions to local senior citizens, including donating clothing, paying their utility bills and assisting with other expenses.

Recently appointed Orange County Planning Commissioner Haydee Tillotson received the chamber’s Athena Award, presented annually to an outstanding business or professional woman who makes major contributions in the community. The award is co-sponsored by the Huntington Beach Auto Dealers Assn.

Tillotson, an active chamber member, is a past president of the Huntington Harbour Republican Women’s Club and former chairman of the Huntington Harbour Philharmonic Committee.

Karen Anthony, a hotel employee, was named the chamber’s ambassador of the year for volunteering “hundreds of hours” on behalf of the chamber as well as for city activities.

Restaurateur Barry Ellerbroek was named member of the year for helping then-chamber Chairman Stephen A. Bone meet his goals for the year.

During Bone’s tenure, which ended on Feb. 28, the chamber received accreditation by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Bone was also instrumental in establishing a small business assistance center that opened earlier this year in the chamber’s new quarters at 2100 Main St.

Bone is succeeded as chairman by Paul E. Cook, a former city administrator.
