COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Anteaters Sweep Opening-Round Match

UC Irvine beat Wichita State, 7-0, Thursday in the opening round of the UCI/Marriott Tennis Classic at Irvine.

Chris Tontz swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 7-6, Aaron Stolpman won, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 singles also for Irvine. The pair then combined to win in doubles, 8-2.

Fred Bach won at No. 3, 6-4, 6-2; Carlos Bustos won, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4, Marco Zuniga won, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 5 and No. 6 Randy Ivey won, 6-2, 6-0, for Irvine.

UC Irvine advances to play UC Santa Barbara at 1 p.m. today at the UC Irvine Tennis Stadium.

Boise State, under former UC Irvine Coach Greg Patton, lost to Middle Tennessee State, 5-4, Thursday in the first round.

Christ College Irvine 3, Claremont 2--Marcus Quintana hit the game-winning single in the seventh inning for Christ College Irvine.

Barrett Bernardo was two for two with a double and a RBI for Christ College Irvine (9-15-2).
