Mercedes-Benz to Build Cars in the U.S.: Mercedes-Benz, a unit of Daimler-Benz, is expected to announce plans to build a new four-wheel-drive family vehicle in the United States. Company officials would not comment on the plant’s location, but industry sources speculated that it will be in one of the Carolinas. The auto maker, which has been looking for ways to reduce labor costs, scheduled a news conference in Dearborn, Mich., to discuss its plans. Mercedes’ heavy truck unit, Freightliner, has three plants in North Carolina.
