Foreign Airlines Barred From U.S.: Fourteen foreign airlines are barred from U.S. airports for safety reasons, the Federal Aviation Administration said, adding that it is the first time foreign airlines have been excluded for a nonpolitical reason. Officials said the ban, first imposed two years ago, was not made public to avoid embarrassing the carriers’ home countries. FAA spokesman Hank Frank named Air Belize, Regal Air of Antigua and Nicaragua’s Central American Airlines as among those not allowed to land in the United States. He said the other 11 carriers were not being identified because the agency is working with many of them to correct the deficiencies.
