Thousand Oaks Office to Be Closed by Exxon

Exxon Corp. plans to close its West Coast production headquarters in Thousand Oaks as its $2.5-billion oil production project in Santa Barbara County comes on line later this year.

Some of the 150 employees will be moved to smaller offices in the area to keep working on the project, Exxon said. Others will be transferred to Exxon facilities elsewhere. The Irving, Tex.-based oil giant said it isn’t yet known if any of the employees will be laid off.

The oil project includes two offshore platforms and a treatment facility in Las Flores Canyon, due to begin operations in December.

Exxon said the 160,000-square-foot complex in Thousand Oaks has been listed for sale for $21 million, and the timing of its move will depend on when a sale is finalized. Exxon has occupied the building since 1983, when it moved its regional offices from Century City.
