A teen-ager who was shot outside a nightclub Sunday night during a fight between rival gang members died Monday, police said.

Friends drove Tin Sing Nguyen, who turned 18 on the day he was shot, to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died about 12:30 a.m., Sgt. Mike Handfield said. Doctors called police after the victim arrived.

Investigators said the shooting apparently stemmed from an argument Sunday night between rival gang members in the parking lot outside the Can nightclub in the 14200 block of Euclid Street.

As the argument became more intense, one of the participants pulled a gun from his waistband and began firing at rival gang members, police said.

Police did not know what prompted the argument and said it was not clear how many other people may have been involved.

Handfield said it appeared that the dead youth was not involved in the argument but that he was a member of one of the gangs at the scene.

Police have made no arrests.
