Roll ‘Em: Afghanistan’s culture ministry plans to reopen some cinemas in Kabul, but only to show films that conform to Islamic principles--precluding all films that contain certain acts such as dancing. The city’s 14 cinemas were closed and taken over as bases after guerrillas entered the city and took power from the former communist government last April. “We hope to reopen one or two cinemas to start with,” Siddiq Chakari, the Islamic government’s minister for culture and information said, noting that foreign films, including U.S. productions, would be allowed only after “editing” by a special commission.
