Miriam Odett; Newspaper Executive

Miriam Odett, vice president of the Antelope Valley Press Newspapers Inc., has died at a Lancaster hospital. She was 76.

A longtime Palmdale resident, Mrs. Odett died Tuesday of complications of heart problems, said her son Lamont Odett Jr. of Palmdale, secretary of the Antelope Valley Press Newspapers Inc.

Born in Yuma, Ariz., Mrs. Odett moved with her husband, Lamont Odett Sr., to the San Fernando Valley in the mid-1940s, where she worked as a free-lance writer. In 1958, the couple moved to the Antelope Valley and purchased the Antelope Valley Press newspaper.

Mrs. Odett helped found and was a charter member of the Antelope Valley Genealogical Society and a member of the Women’s Golf Assn. at the Antelope Valley Country Club.

In addition to her son Lamont, Mrs. Odett is survived by her son William Odett and four grandchildren. Her husband died in 1975.

Services will be private. Chapel of the Valley Mortuary in Palmdale is handling the arrangements. Donations can be made in Mrs. Odett’s name to the Antelope Valley Country Club Youth Golf Program.
