AIDS Project Los Angeles on Wednesday officially opened an eight-unit, low-income housing complex for people with AIDS.

The Fountain Avenue apartment complex is owned by Christopher Street West, which runs the annual Gay Pride Festival in Los Angeles, and operated by APLA, the largest AIDS service agency in the city.

Tenants, who were chosen by lottery, pay a maximum of $176 in monthly rent for the one-bedroom apartments. The rest of the rent is subsidized with federal housing funds for the disabled.
