Nation IN BRIEF : WISCONSIN : Milwaukee Residents Must Still Boil Water
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Residents of Milwaukee must continue boiling drinking water until at least Wednesday because of a parasite that got into city water mains and sickened thousands, Mayor John Norquist said. He said test results have confirmed the presence of Cryptosporidium at the city’s two purification plants. The plants draw water from Lake Michigan and serve 800,000 residents in Milwaukee and 10 suburbs. Thousands have developed symptoms that include vomiting and diarrhea in the past two weeks.
