Torrance Skater to Compete in Italy

Michelle Kwan of Torrance has been selected by the United States Figure Skating Assn. to represent the nation in the Gardenia Spring Trophy Championships to be held Thursday through April 18 in St. Ulrich, Italy.

Kwan, 12, was the youngest skater in the Senior Ladies event at the national championships in January at Phoenix. She placed sixth out of 20 competitors.

Kwan represents the All Year Figure Skating Club based at the Culver City Ice Arena. She also trains at the Skating Edge rink in Harbor City and the Blue Jay Training Center in Lake Arrowhead.
