MELTING POT : Over, Under, Around and Through

In these politically correct times, it’s in to revise history, religious doctrine, even language. But geography?

Yep. For centuries, the cartographers of the world have been, well, globist, says Ian Brackenbury (Jack) Channell, 58, New Zealand’s self-described official philosopher. “Who said that the North Pole was up top?” he demands. So Channell created the “corrected map,” which he unveiled at his Christchurch headquarters in the 1970s. (It could use at least one more correction. Check the Pacific Ocean).

Australia rapidly followed the Kiwi lead. “We’re very, uh, up on the whole thing,” says Aussie transplant Paul Brooks, whose La Jolla Kangaguru boutique has sold hundreds of similar maps for $11.95. “We’re not sure if that’s because people see them as the wave of the future, or just as something to giggle at.”
