COUNTYWIDE : Schools Nominated for Top State Honor
Thirteen Orange County elementary schools have been nominated for the 1992-93 California Distinguished Schools Program, the state Department of Education has announced.
In addition, Newhart Elementary in the Capistrano Unified School District and Vista Verde Elementary in the Irvine Unified School District have been nominated for statewide recognition based on their performance in the 1992 Eighth Grade Assessment Program.
The California Distinguished Schools Program, initiated in 1986, honors elementary and secondary schools for excellence.
Elementary schools, however, have not been recognized since 1989 because of state budget cuts.
The following schools were nominated for the school recognition program: John Marshall Elementary (Anaheim Elementary School District); Barcelona Hills Elementary (Capistrano Unified); Laguna Road and Raymond Elementary (Fullerton Elementary); John H. Eader Elementary (Huntington Beach City); Francis Hopkinson, J.H. McGaugh Elementary and Los Alamitos Elementary (Los Alamitos Unified); Bryant Ranch and Linda Vista Elementary (Placentia-Yorba Linda); Cordillera and Lomarena elementary schools (Saddleback Valley Unified) and John Adams Elementary (Santa Ana Unified).
About 500 schools statewide submitted applications for the program.
The winners will be announced in May, following visitations to the nominated schools.
