NATION IN BRIEF : OHIO : State EPA Approves Toxic Waste Plant
The state Environmental Protection Agency gave the go-ahead to begin limited commercial operation of a hazardous-waste incinerator. The agency’s approval followed a trial burn designed to show the Waste Technologies Industries incinerator’s ability to safely destroy material in a variety of conditions. Final approval for general operations will not be given until the test results are analyzed, which will take several months. The federal EPA gave the eastern Ohio incinerator approval for limited operations on April 6.
