Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) will give the keynote address Friday at a Southeast-area economic summit called by Assemblywoman Martha M. Escutia (D-Huntington Park).
More than 200 elected officials, educators and business leaders from the area are expected at the event, which is open to the public. The summit begins at 8 a.m. at Bell Community Center, 6250 Pine Ave.
Brown is expected to discuss the Alameda Corridor, which would connect the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles with downtown Los Angeles, and public matching funds for small-business loans.
Brown and Escutia also are expected to discuss a proposed state development bank and state-funded, low-interest business loans.
This is Escutia’s second economic summit in her district, which includes Huntington Park, Bell, Bell Gardens, Maywood and Cudahy. Local leaders gathered in January to give their input for the state summit. Information: (213) 582-7774.
