Standoff in Waco
In response to “Boredom Booms in Instant ‘Satellite City,’ ” April 8:
Four hundred federal officers are sitting around in Waco waiting for those people to come out. Four hundred? What a waste of money! Don’t federal officers have something better to do? The government is spending $500,000 a day to sit and wait. Unbelievable. No wonder our federal deficit is out of control.
Why not send the agents home and save a fortune? Instead, have the county sheriff drive by the place, say, once an hour. Perhaps even post a deputy. Then when the people inside eventually get around to coming out, he can call some backup and round them up.
