Three people were slain Wednesday during a shooting rampage, allegedly by a resident of a Long Beach trailer park who killed his housemate in her mobile home then gunned down the park’s security guard and a teen-age boy working at a golf course across the street.

Details of the shootings were sketchy as police sought to piece together the chain of events that led to the eruption of violence at the Belmont Shores Mobile Home Estates on Loynes Drive near Cal State Long Beach.

Long Beach police spokesman Bob Anderson said the suspected gunman, whose name was not immediately available, was caught after a brief chase through the golf course.

Witnesses said the first shots were fired shortly before 8 p.m. in a trailer that for the past several years had been occupied by a couple that neighbors believed to be either a brother and sister or a mother and son.

Glenn Leibowitz, a neighbor, said he heard a barrage of gunfire and a woman’s scream shortly before the man, a Cal State student in his 30s, fled the trailer park.

Police arriving at the park found the elderly security guard dead at the gate. They followed the sound of gunfire across the street to the Bixby Village Golf Course, where they found the third victim, a 17-year-old who died shortly afterward at a local hospital.
