VENTURA : Earth Day Faire Geared to Youths

Share

Ventura County residents will be able to munch on organic foods, watch Chumash Indian dancers and educate themselves about environmental issues at the Earth Day Faire on Sunday in Ventura.

Sponsored by a coalition of local environmentalists, the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Marina Park at Pierpont Boulevard and Coral Street.

Organizer Alan Godley said the event is geared toward young people to encourage them to become active in protecting the environment.

At least 20 nonprofit groups and public agencies will have information tables at the fair, Godley said. But the event will also have a lighter side.

Three acoustic bands will play at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and a group of Chumash Indians will perform a dance honoring dolphins at 2 p.m. Local restaurants will sell juices, salads and other foods, Godley said.

The Earth Action Group, which is sponsoring the fair and which holds regular beach cleanups in Ventura, is also holding a series of free talks on environmental issues during the week in the atrium at Ventura City Hall. For more information, call Godley at 643-1862.
