Police on Friday arrested one of two men suspected of shooting a driver during an attempted carjacking earlier this month.
Mark Leonard Irrobali, 23, was arrested shortly before 9 a.m. by Brea police, who stopped him for speeding and then learned of a warrant naming him in an attempted murder and robbery on April 5.
On that Monday evening, two men confronted Mohammed Kamil, 28, of Placentia outside his friend’s apartment complex in the 3300 block of East Yorba Linda Boulevard. One man carried a gun and demanded cash and Kamil’s car, police said.
Kamil turned and tried to run but was shot once in the back. The assailants then fled in their own car, police said. The second suspect is still being sought.
Kamil was recovering in a hospital, police said Friday.
Irrobali is also suspected in a Feb. 5 carjacking in Fullerton in which he allegedly stole a car and valuables from a couple, police said. He was being held in Fullerton City Jail without bail, said Sylvia Palmer Mudrick, a department spokeswoman.
