Toney Keeps Title on Technical Knockout
James Toney retained his International Boxing Federation super-middleweight title Saturday night with a technical knockout of Ricky Thomas at 51 seconds of the 10th round at Bushkill, Pa.
The fight was stopped after Toney hit Thomas with a barrage of punches early in the 10th round of of the scheduled 10-round fight. Toney connected with a right uppercut followed by a left as Thomas stood helplessly near the ropes before the fight was stopped.
Toney controlled the fight from start to finish. A solid left hook by the champion sent Thomas to the canvas in the closing seconds of the ninth round. Thomas was able to get up and stagger to his corner.
Toney improved to 36-0-2 with 25 knockouts. Thomas fell to 11-9-1.
