A crane inspector was killed Wednesday when he fell 12 feet and landed on his head at a Ventura company, investigators said.
Kenneth Grace, 41, was performing a mandatory annual inspection of a 100-ton crane at Off Shore Crane & Service Co. when the accident occurred, a company spokeswoman said.
Grace, an employee of Cholla Crane Inspection of Scottsdale, Ariz., fell from the crane and struck his head on the cement-covered yard near Stanley and Ventura avenues about 10:30 a.m., said Ventura County Deputy Coroner Dale Zentzis.
Grace, who had recently moved to Simi Valley from Arizona, was rushed to Ventura County Medical Center and was pronounced dead 45 minutes later, Zentzis said.
Cause of death was tentatively identified as head trauma, but an an autopsy will be conducted today, Zentzis said.
