GLENDALE : School Board Rejects Bids for Expansion
School board members, in a close vote, have decided to scrap last month’s contract offers for classroom expansion at Glendale High School, forcing the district to start the bidding process anew.
The move Tuesday night followed a district recommendation to award the project to a Santa Ana firm--the second highest of the seven bidders and the only contractor whose bid met design specifications, officials said.
But because S.J. Amoroso Construction Co. Inc.’s $7,843,000 offer was $755,500 over that of the lowest bid from C.W. Driver Contractors, school trustees voted 3 to 2 in favor of going back to the drawing board.
District officials believe the rebidding process could last until the summer and would probably delay plans to have the new, 81,000-square-foot classroom building ready by September, 1994. That is also when the campus is expected to accommodate ninth-graders from Wilson and Roosevelt middle schools.
