SAN FERNANDO : Police Conducting Sobriety Checkpoint

Share

A sobriety checkpoint will be conducted tonight in the latest enforcement effort by the San Fernando Police Department to crack down on drunk drivers.

The department stepped up patrols last year after a rash of fatal accidents on major thoroughfares such as Glenoaks Boulevard were caused by drunk drivers, Lt. Dan Peavy said.

As a result, drunk-driving arrests rose from 48 during the first three months of 1992 to 155 during the same period this year.

“We’re trying to take every step we can to minimize drinking and driving,” Peavy said. He said the department has asked the California Highway Patrol to assist with the checkpoint, which will be from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
