Debate Over Fighting in Bosnia

Share

After reading Walter Russell Mead’s column (“Looking at Bosnia, Clinton Sees Only Ugly, Bad Choices,” Opinion, April 18)--and there are hundreds of articles like this proclaiming doom for Bosnia with great emphasis on American pride rather than effectively trying to solve the Balkan question--I am disappointed!

How noble for the Western nations to impose an arms embargo on Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia and then stand back and watch Serbia, which controls most of the weaponry and arms produced in the former Yugoslavia, go to the shooting gallery, killing the innocent victims of these freedom-seeking republics.

We don’t have to send U.S. troops to the Balkans! But U.S. air support would be appropriate! We can cut off Serbian supply routes, we can cripple the Serbian military advantage and we can lift the arms embargo against Bosnia, supply Bosnians with arms and make this a fair fight!

It amazes me that people actually resist this proposal for fear of more bloodshed and yet aren’t concerned when it is only Muslim blood that’s being shed!
