STILL SAFE: Looking for a safe city? Try Santa Clarita, which has maintained its ranking as the nation’s third safest city among municipalities with populations greater than 100,000, the FBI reports (B12). . . . Mayor Jan Heidt says she’s pleased about the ranking but unhappy there is still a rash of vandalism. By contrast, Los Angeles last year had a crime rate three times higher. . . . Maybe it’s because about half of the county sheriff’s deputies who patrol Santa Clarita also live there.
