Mortgage Rates Edge Up: Interest charged on 30-year, fixed-rate mortgages averaged 7.43% this week, up slightly from a 20-year low a week earlier, the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. said. Rates had averaged 7.38% during the week ended April 22, the lowest since they hit that same rate in August, 1972. On one-year, adjustable-rate mortgages, lenders were asking an average initial rate of 4.67%, up from last week’s 4.64%, which was the lowest since the corporation began tracking ARMs in 1984. The rates do not include add-on fees or points.
