Santa Anita Did Have Its Days for Charity

Share

Reader Clarence W. Hayward’s letter criticizing Santa Anita for the loss of two racing days that would have been run for charity was erroneous. Five designated charity days, from which all net profits for the day are donated to charity, were run as scheduled in January and February.

Although accounting figures for this year’s days are not yet final, they will be comparable to last year’s proceeds of about $400,000. Beneficiaries of these charity days included such groups as United Way, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Don Bosco Technical Institute, Estelle Doheny Eye Foundation and American Red Cross.
