DINOSAURS REDISCOVERED: New Findings Which Are Revolutionizing Dinosaur Science by Don Lessem, illustrations by John Sibbick (Touchstone: $12.; 368 pp.). Enormous and extinct, dinosaurs exert a curious fascination for humans of all ages. The current debates over cold blood vs. hot and asteroid collision vs. gradual extinction receive more attention in the popular press than controversies in other natural sciences. This engaging book, which reads like a series of magazine articles, includes summaries of recent discoveries and profiles of colorful paleontologists. Commendably, Lessem stresses that the current theories about dinosaur metabolism, maternal behavior, extinction, etc. are just that--theories based on a growing but still fragmentary body of evidence that is subject to differing interpretations.
