* LIQUOR STORE REPEAL: Approved a proposal by Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores that city officials start revocation proceedings to prevent the Sunrise Mini-Market and liquor store at 11202 S. Central Ave. from reopening. The store was destroyed during last spring’s riots. Police officials say that while the store operated, it was a public nuisance because of the crime that occurred near it. Community residents have signed petitions protesting the reopening of the store.

* ARTS FESTIVAL: Approved the temporary closure of Hope Street between Temple and 1st streets, except for Hope Street’s southbound lane, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 15 for the Very Special Arts Festival. The event is sponsored by the Los Angeles Music Center, Los Angeles County and the Los Angeles Unified School District. Permit fees of $1,820 were waived.

* CINCO DE MAYO: At the request of Councilman Mike Hernandez, the westbound lanes of Valley Boulevard between San Pablo Street and Mission Road will be closed today from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the Comite Mexicano Civico Patriotico Cinco de Mayo celebration.

* SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Councilman Nate Holden proposed waiving $6,900 in city permit fees to allow 150 banners to be displayed throughout the city announcing the California Special Olympics Summer Games, June 25-27 at UCLA. The banners will be flown from May 28 to June 28.

* FUNDING: Approved appropriating $1,500 in public service funds from Councilwoman Rita Walters’ district for three community organizations that plan to spend the money on cleanup efforts. Pueblo de Rio Resident Advisory Council, Bowen Memorial United Methodist Church and Concerned Citizens of South Central Los Angeles will each receive $500.

HOW THEY VOTED

How South-Central and Eastside representatives voted on selected issues.

* REAPPOINT: Approved the reappointment of Michael Gage to the board of the Metropolitan Water District. Gage, chairman of the board, will continue as one of the city’s eight representatives on the water agency board. Gage will serve through Dec. 31, 1996. Passed: 10-1. Voting yes: Richard Alatorre, Flores, Hernandez and Holden. Absent: Mark Ridley-Thomas and Walters.

* TASK FORCE: Approved $258,220 in overtime pay accrued as a result of last year’s civil unrest by the Los Angeles Metropolitan Task Force. The task force included Los Angeles police officers and FBI agents. The federal government is expected to reimburse the city. Passed: 11-0. Voting yes: Flores, Hernandez, Holden and Ridley-Thomas. Absent: Alatorre and Walters.
