Kiichi Miyazawa

Although I voted for Bill Clinton for President last November, since then I have been disappointed with many of his suggested programs, plus not living up to his campaign promises. I won’t go into all those many upsetting decisions now. However what Clinton did April 16 was the last straw in my book.

Japanese Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa came to the United States to discuss trade with the President. He was treated poorly from his arrival until his departure. The rude way the President treated the Japanese prime minster at the press conference (“Clinton Presses Japan for Trade Rebalancing,” April 17) showed how little (if any) manners Clinton has. You don’t “put down” a head of state on national television!

What our President and any head of state may agree or disagree on in the privacy of the Oval Office is perfectly correct. Clinton should have kept his mouth shut at the press conference. What I saw was a young, tall yuppie President with poor manners; and an older and much wiser smaller man with more manners than our President could even dream of having.
