VAN NUYS : Man Who Ran Over Officer Is Charged

Prosecutors on Wednesday filed five felony charges, including attempted murder, against a Van Nuys man who was shot by police after he allegedly used a stolen car to run over a police officer.
Oscar Haroldo Tejeda, 20, is being held in the jail ward at County-USC Medical Center after being shot in the ear Monday.
Once released from the hospital, he will be arraigned on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, hit and run, receiving stolen property and grand theft of an automobile.
Tejeda panicked after driving into the scene of a homicide investigation at Saticoy Street and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert L. Cohen. He put the stolen car he was driving into reverse and hit a motorcycle officer, Cohen said.
Officer Manuel Arujo suffered minor injuries when he was thrown from his motorcycle.
Detectives investigating the killing--which is unrelated to Tejeda--chased Tejeda, eventually shooting him as he tried to scale a wall, Cohen said.
