Shandling at 12:30? Garry Shandling turned down NBC, but sources say that CBS is talking to him about hosting a 12:30 a.m. show to follow David Letterman. Officially, the network would not confirm the talks, saying that “our focus is now on David and getting him started.” But unofficially, they’re talking. Shandling has a deal with HBO to complete another season of his weekly “Larry Sanders Show,” which effectively barred him from accepting the offer to begin at NBC in late summer. Sources say he’s been offered the CBS late-night slot starting in January, which his schedule could accommodate. However, it’s Letterman who could ultimately decide the matter, since his contract calls for him to produce the CBS late-night show.
