Oak Park : County Planners Give Go-Ahead for New Park

Ventura County planners on Thursday approved a proposal for a new park--complete with lighted tennis courts and playground equipment--in Oak Park.

The Planning Commission voted unanimously to allow the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District to move forward with plans to build the $1.2-million park on 9.5 acres at Hawthorne Drive and Rockfield Street.

“We have been working to get this constructed for some time,” said Kent Behringer, chairman of the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Committee. Dmitri Hunt, park district planning and development administrator, said the park will be paid for by developers’ fees. He said the park should be completed by summer of 1994.

In addition to tennis courts and playground, the park will have a lighted basketball court and picnic grounds.
