Voters Should Have Approved Prop. 1

Share

I am a high school sophomore in the Los Angeles Unified School District, and I am more concerned about the safety of our streets than the majority of voters in Los Angeles!

Although I don’t pay taxes yet, I would happily pay a small fee for what could be a life-saving service.

Just as I had suspected, the people of Los Angeles looked at Proposition 1 and saw these words: “higher property taxes.” They immediately marked “no” and moved on. This must have been what happened because there is no other reason to deny this proposition!

I just can’t believe all the excitement over approximately $72 per year per household. I feel that voters should have concentrating more on their safety, and that of their families, rather than on this small increase in property taxes.

Second, I worry about the message this sends out to criminals. Once they realize that Los Angeles is not ready to get serious and buckle down on crime, it is almost an invitation to criminals to do whatever they please. I don’t expect an officer at every corner, but L. A. needs all the help it can get.
