A major donor to the Pacific Symphony has added more than $500,000 to the $1.2 million he pledged in 1991 as a charitable trust, set to mature in 2006. Orange County philanthropist William J. Gillespie has added a $550,000 pledge to his previous contribution. Additionally, he will give the orchestra another $250,000 in installments of $50,000 a year for the next five years. All the money will go to endow the Pacific Symphony music director’s chair. The new money from Gillespie brings the orchestra’s campaign to raise $5 million by Sept. 30 to $3.7 million. That total does not include Gillespie’s original $1.2-million donation.
