Chevron Wins Final OK for Coastal Tankers: Environmental opponents have failed to persuade the California Coastal Commission to revoke a permit for the partners in the Point Arguello offshore field to transport crude oil by tanker to Los Angeles. Chevron and the other oil companies could send the first double-hulled tanker south from Santa Barbara County as early as June 1. At issue was whether the commission received misleading information before it agreed to a three-year permit earlier this year. Spokesman Michael Marcy said Chevron was “gratified” at the 4-7 vote. Sara Wan, vice chairman of the League for Coastal Protection, said she did not expect that environmentalists would resort to the only recourse left, a lawsuit: “We won’t sue. We don’t have the money.”
