Woman Pleads Guilty in Father’s Assault

A Camarillo woman who beat and poured boiling water on her elderly father because he was reading her magazine pleaded guilty Friday to assault with a deadly weapon.

Juletta Marie Madrid, 42, also pleaded guilty to inflicting great bodily injury during the Feb. 10 attack on Raul Madrid, 77.

She faces a potential 11-year prison term when she is sentenced June 18, Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert D. Meyers said. Additional charges filed against Madrid--including that she also assaulted her mother, Irene Madrid--will be dismissed at the time of sentencing, the prosecutor said.

Madrid in March pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but withdrew that plea Friday after two doctors who examined her concluded she was legally sane at the time of the attack, Meyers said.

Police said Madrid struck her father with a shovel, rake and hammer before tossing boiling water on him.

She also was accused of holding a knife to her mother’s throat and threatening to kill her when the older woman tried to leave the house.

Raul Madrid, who uses a walker to get around, was treated for cuts, burns and abrasions, police said.

Deputy Public Defender Robert K. Willey, who represents Madrid, has said his client has been treated in the past by county mental health officials.

Madrid remains in the Ventura County Jail pending sentencing.
