Girl Scout Volunteers Given Top Honor

An estimated 500 guests watched as top volunteers of the Girl Scout Council of Orange County were honored for their contributions to the council at a recent recognition dinner in the Disneyland Hotel.

Thanks Badges, the highest honor for Girl Scout volunteers, were presented to Suzanne Huffmon Esber of Santa Ana, Gary Kirchhoff of Mission Viejo and Jerry McCloskey of Laguna Hills.

Bonnie Foor of Garden Grove was presented a Thanks Badge II, which recognizes continued outstanding service by a previous Thanks Badge recipient.

Other award winners were Judge Betty L. Elias, Nike Tardif and Msgr. Jaime Soto of Orange; Mary Jo Keller, San Juan Capistrano; Teresa Powell, Yorba Linda; Ruth Roski, La Habra, Laurie Graves, Mission Viejo; Alan Porter, Huntington Beach, and Mark Campbell, Trabuco Canyon.

Yorba Linda resident Patricia Baur, who holds a master’s degree in library science from USC, has been elected president of the California Assn. of Library Trustees and Commissioners which helps promote interest in the development of effective library service.

Boy Scouts Robert Brown and Jason Berg, both seniors at Foothill High School in Tustin Unified School District, each received the Boy Scout Medal of Merit from the National Court of Honor after they used their first aid and emergency preparedness training to give immediate aid to a traffic accident victim, direct traffic and call for emergency medical aid.

Golden West College professors Sharon Ratliffe of Irvine and Evelyn Weiss of Huntington Beach have been named to an international leadership training program for college women administrators.

The program includes instruction and practice in supervisory and human relations skills as well as discussions with national experts.

Ratliffe is a speech communications and staff development adviser, and Weiss is a nursing professor.

Andrew McArthur, 18, a senior at Villa Park High School, was named Top Junior Showman of purebred dogs in California by the California Professional Handlers Assn.

Anaheim resident Marilyn Ann Leuer, owner of an Anaheim parking lot sweeping and commercial landscape maintenance company, was named Employer of the Year by the Anaheim Private Industry Council. She was selected in part for hiring youths.

The Irvine chapter of the National Charity League today will present 22 young women at its Senior Presentation, which culminates their six years of community service as Ticktocker members.

The Ticktockers, all Irvine residents, are Lisa Ball, Amy Becker, Jessica Catrow, Kelly Fiduccia, Nicole Gallardo, Amy Gettye, Heather Huntley, Kimberly Klett, Lauren McCaffrey, Katie McKenna, Kimberly Nourse and Meredith O’Connor

Others are Kathleen Pitchess, Laura Polen, Kristen Pope, Amy Richards, Amy Salcedo, Danielle Shedd, Julie Sortais, Jennifer Tryfon, Kristen Waller and Mindy Worsdell.
