From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Republican Gov. Fife Symington, who is being sued by federal savings and loan regulators over one of his real estate developments, has lost a failing shopping plaza at a trustee’s sale. The Mercado, a Mexican-themed arcade near the downtown arena that is home to the Phoenix Suns basketball team, was taken over by its main lender. A consortium of six pension funds bid $3.145 million this week for the 127,000-square-foot Mercado.
