BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Worrell Pitches in Simulated Game

Share

Todd Worrell pitched in a simulated game Friday, facing hitters for the first time since April 8, when he pulled a muscle in his arm. He said he still isn’t 100%, but that might not keep him from returning to the active list.

“I didn’t throw any harder than I have been on the side, but it will help me determine what I can and can’t do out there,” Worrell said. “If I feel that I have enough stuff to get guys out, then it is conceivable that I may return with less than 100%. I need to throw a few more times and see, but as long as I won’t embarrass myself or the team, it’s a possibility.”

Eric Karros, the reigning National League rookie of the year, said that Houston’s Jeff Bagwell, who won the award in 1991, was teasing him before the game about his slumping offense. Karros is batting .248 with 14 runs batted in and two home runs. “He was telling me how much I was stinking it up,” Karros said. “He told me that the year after he won the award, he was living on the 18th floor of an apartment building. He said that after 150 at-bats he was hitting .210 and he was out on that ledge a few times.” Bagwell was two for three Friday night and is batting .352.
