Nirvana is returning to the studio to work on material for its upcoming album, now due in the fall. Kurt Cobain and band were thought to have finished the collection in their recent Minneapolis sessions with producer Steve Albini, but manager Janet Billig says that “after living with the recordings for a bit, they decided to do some more.” And what about rumors that Geffen Records had rejected the original recordings? “We will release whatever record the band delivers to us,” Geffen President Ed Rosenblatt said in a statement. “We categorically deny rumors that we have censored the creativity of Nirvana in any way.” . . .

A new U2 album could be here in a few weeks. The only question apparently is whether to release a full album from recent Dublin recording sessions or just a Europe-only five-song EP as originally planned. . . .

Mike Myers (of “Wayne’s World”) has scripted a video for the Ned’s Atomic Dustbin version of the Bay City Rollers hit “Saturday Night,” featured in the upcoming Myers-starring movie “So I Married an Axe Murderer.” . . .

Morrissey is planning to start work on a new album soon with producer Steve Lillywhite, as well record a possible duet single with Siouxsie Sioux. A new live Morrissey album has been released in England, but there are no plans for it to come out Stateside. . . .

Ministry fans won’t have to wait until the group’s next album to hear the latest from leader Al Jourgenson. His other band, Revolting Cocks, is finishing up its first album for Sire after several on Wax Trax. The album is due in the fall, with a tour expected to follow. . . . B.B. King assembled a roster of top blues artists to collaborate on his new album, “Blues Summit,” due June 22. Among the guests are Robert Cray (on a tune he wrote for the project), Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Ruth Brown and Etta James. . . .

Soul Asylum is marking the 10th annual National Missing Children’s Day on May 25 with the release of the video for its song “Runaway Train.” The clip features photos of actual missing children and concludes with a plea from singer Dave Pirner for anyone knowing of their whereabouts to call a hotline number that will be shown on screen. . . .

The Toady of the Week nod goes to keyboardist-sidekick Paul Shaffer, who gave guest roles to both his TV boss, David Letterman, and his record company boss, EMI Record Group Chairman Charles Koppelman, on his new Todd Rundgren-produced “World’s Most Dangerous Party” album. The two are among the guest celebs who toss in one-line comments between instrumental versions of classic hits by the likes of Led Zep and Sly Stone. . . .

George Michael has signed up k.d. lang and Annie Lennox as the latest singers for his “Trojan Souls” project featuring songs written and produced--but not sung--by him. The two join Aretha Franklin, Elton John, Bryan Ferry, Seal and Anita Baker on the roster for the album, due early next year.
