Studying Theater Proposal : Downey vs. Long Beach Theaters
Many of us are tired of hearing the Long Beach Theater complex being compared to the proposed Downey Theater. How can anyone compare a theater in a port city and shipping center like Long Beach to a community like Downey? Also they forget to mention that Long Beach leases the property to the theater. Downey wants to give it away.
We have a City Council crying for money for school improvements, fire department equipment, a senior citizen center, a local bus line and lighting improvements, and yet they give away $3 million in property. They tell us we will not get the money back and that it will not necessarily bring business back to downtown Downey.
After all this, there is still the parking problem. Is this (traffic) overload going down our residential streets and filling up the surrounding business parking lots?
Where is the logic in all this?
