Airbrushed ‘Rangers’

Raymond Klinaszewski’s assertion that “Space Rangers” was a show “way ahead of its time (making) ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ look like a back-alley production” (TV Times, April 25) is like saying that a paint-by-numbers version of the “Mona Lisa” shows just as much depth, talent and creativity as the original. Granted, “The Next Generation” isn’t as flawless as the Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece--it has made its fair share of stumbles along the way--but the cartoon, shoot-’em-up “Space Rangers” is a perfect example of how uninspired paint-by-numbers television can be.
