Public Whippings Planned: Malaysia plans to introduce public whippings as a punishment for white-collar crimes, the New Straits Times and Star newspapers said last week. Law Minister Syed Hamid Syed Jaafar Albar said in a speech that the Penal Code will be amended during the next sitting of Parliament. “We want the shame generated by the publicity given to such offenders to serve as a deterrent to others,” he said.
