SIMI VALLEY : 2% Raise a Possibility for School Employees
Simi Valley school board members tonight will consider approving a contract that would grant a 2% across-the-board pay increase to the district’s 700 non-teaching workers.
Negotiated over the past year, the three-year contract has been approved by the local chapter of the California School Employees Assn., the union for non-teaching employees. The pay increase would be retroactive to July, 1992, when the last contract expired, Simi Valley Unified School District officials said.
The previous contract was extended while bargaining continued, said Assistant Supt. Leon Mattingley. The increase will cost the district an additional $236,504 for the period from July 1, 1992, through this June 30, he said.
Randy Crouse, president of the association’s local chapter, said the 2% increase is a good amount, given “the situation with the state and its financial crisis.”
The contract would cover clerical workers, janitors, instructional aides, kitchen workers and other classified personnel.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. at Simi Valley City Hall.
