Panel to Vote on Disney Resort Report

The Planning Commission is expected to vote today on whether to endorse the environmental and planning documents for the proposed Disneyland Resort.

To help the commission reach its decision, city administrators on Tuesday released a staff report that clarified and refined elements in the document.

The report addressed concerns expressed by the commissioners during an April 29 public hearing on the project. Among the concerns were noise and height ordinances and landscaping.

The staff report also responded to the Anaheim City School District’s concern that the project would adversely impact the district. But the report concludes that those concerns are unfounded.

Deputy City Manager Tom Wood said no major changes have been made to the environmental and planning documents as a result of the public hearing.

If the Planning Commission endorses the project, as expected, the documents still need to be approved by the City Council, which would first hold another public hearing.

If all the documents are approved, Disney would be cleared to begin construction on the project, which currently calls for a second theme park named Westcot, six new hotels, a 5,000-seat amphitheater and a retail shopping district inside the park.
