SIMI VALLEY : Warrant Issued for Woman in Drug Case

Share

A bench warrant was issued Tuesday for the arrest of the sister-in-law of a man formerly accused of laundering $25 million in drug profits from a home in Simi Valley, prosecutors said.

Luz Urrego, who spent more than a year in Ventura County Jail after she pleaded guilty to participating in the money-laundering scheme, failed to show up for a meeting with Probation Department officials, said Deputy Dist. Atty. James Grunert.

Her brother-in-law, Otoniel Urrego, pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy to sell cocaine after a jury was unable to reach a verdict on the more serious charges of money laundering.

Under the deal with prosecutors, Luz Urrego was to testify against her brother-in-law at his trial, and remain in custody until the conclusion of the case. Otoniel Urrego was sentenced to eight years in state prison last month.

The $10,000 warrant was issued by Superior Court Judge Charles W. Campbell Jr. after a brief hearing.

Grunert said he did not know where Luz Urrego might be living, but said she may have moved to North Hollywood following her release from county jail.
