McKellen as Richard III: Sir Ian McKellen will re-create his acclaimed stage performance as Richard III on the big screen. First Look Pictures announced that the movie version of Shakespeare’s drama “Richard III” will begin filming next winter. McKellen has also co-written the film’s screenplay with Richard Eyre, who directed the stage production. The show played at the Royal National Theater in London and toured Europe, the United States (with a stop in Los Angeles) and Japan last year.
